Champs Chicken was started in March of 1999 by Shawn and Julie Burcham in Willard, Missouri. The first Champs Chicken account was opened in the central Missouri town of Auxvasse (population 900) in April of 1999. The distribution of breading, shortening, and packaging was initially done out of Shawn and Julie's garage.

The high quality and popularity of Champs Chicken made growth rapid and additional storage space became a priority. With tremendous growth in the central Missouri area, a decision was made to lease storage space in Columbia, MO. In November of 1999, Shawn and his family moved to Holts Summit, MO. Champs Chicken had already grown to over 10 accounts and plans to build a warehouse were underway.

In August of 2001, a new facility was completed and the first refrigerated truck was purchased. The new facility allowed Pro Food Systems, Inc. to stock and distribute dry, frozen, and refrigerated food products. Champs Chicken was now able to provide a"one stop shop" to all of their customers, while maintaining consistency at every location.

Champs Chicken has continued to grow at a rapid pace over the years. Shawn remains President of the company and is still very involved in the day to day operations. Pro Food Systems remains committed to their mission statement. In order to achieve this mission, they keep focused on using the best equipment to provide the highest quality products, reducing food and distribution costs, and most importantly, making our retailers more profitable!
